Common Symptoms Of Tonsillitis
Did you ever suffer from tonsillitis? Tonsillitis is a very common childhood health issue. However, adults can also suffer from it. As you must be aware, tonsillitis can lead to swelling of lymph nodes because of inflammation of the tonsils. Now, how will you find out whether you actually have tonsillitis and when you need to visit the doctor for medical treatment?
Here are a few common symptoms of tonsillitis that will be of help
1) Throat pain
A tell-tale symptom of tonsillitis, throat pain is caused due to the inflammation of tonsils that are present in the throat region. You might even have throat pain clubbed with ear and neck pain because both the ear and neck and located very close to each other. So, if you have throat pain, don’t just ignore it. It can be due to tonsillitis.
2) Difficulty in swallowing
A sore throat can make swallowing food pretty difficult. It becomes a huge problem for little children. So, if your child isn’t eating anything at all, or is finding it difficult to swallow food, you must do something about it. Difficulty in swallowing along with fever and throat pain is one of the main symptoms of tonsillitis. You must consult the doctor and get it treated.
3) Fever
You get fever when there is an inflammation in the body. That is why one symptom of tonsillitis is a rise in body temperature. So, if you are suffering from fever which is between 100 and 102 degree Celsius that does not seem to come down even after consuming a paracetamol, it is a reason to worry. If you also have throat pain for more than one or two days, then you must consult your doctor.
4) Headache
Tonsillitis can also lead to headaches because of fever. The other cause of headaches is lack of energy due to long gaps between meals. It can make your headache worse. However, if your headache is clubbed with throat pain, it can be because of swollen tonsils. You need to get medical help to bring down your discomfort.
5) Cough
Throat pain and fever are common symptoms of tonsillitis and in certain cases there may also be cough. The reason to have cough along with the other symptoms of tonsillitis is that the inflammation can spread to the lungs. So, you need to consult your doctor if you have swollen tonsils, a bad throat and cough.
